Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between cosmetic surgery and reconstructive surgery?

Cosmetic surgery is performed on an individual without any abnormal structures on the body. This is solely performed to reshape the normal features of the body in order to attain the desired look and appearance. This surgery is not usually covered by the insurance company as this is just an elective type of procedure.

Reconstructive surgery is performed to correct the abnormalities on the body structures which may be caused by trauma, infection, disease, congenital defects and abnormal developments of the body. It is also performed to improve the function and appearance. This procedure is normally covered by health care insurance.

Am I able to tolerate the pain after surgery?

Every individual has different pain tolerance thresholds.  Some patients may describe the pain as a minimal discomfort while some say that it bothers them for a few weeks. Most facial cosmetic surgery has a minimal discomfort post operation. Operations such as liposuction and breast augmentation can be more uncomfortable as the operation may require tightening of the muscles.

When can I resume my daily routine activities?

The patient cannot immediately resume their routine activities after such a procedure. It requires a little time for the swelling to subside caused by the incision. In an average of 2 weeks the patient can resume their daily routine provided that they do it slowly and gradually. Contact sports or other forms of activity that involve body contact may resume after one month.
